From 1 November students at Carshalton College will be able to use a new online counselling service called Kooth.com
This service is free, anonymous and confidential for people aged 11 to 25 years to get free online advice from trained therapists and advice workers. It is a safe online site where our students can get help, advice & support with anything that’s causing stress, hardship or embarrassment, plus find out about local services, events & news and write blogs or magazine articles.
Kooth.com have experience of talking to people about problems at home and College, drink and drugs, sexual health and sexuality, anxiety, stress, eating disorders and relationships.
Lisa Jones, Head of Student Support Services, explained the benefit of this service for the students
“We aim to provide our learners with an effective early intervention, timely and free online counselling service, which is confidential and safe. The beauty of Kooth.com is that it is available to our students to access 24 hours per day, 7 days a week, with the exception of the one-to-one chat rooms which is available 7 days a week between 12pm and 10pm Monday to Friday and 4pm and 10pm Saturday on Sunday. Face to face counselling services are becoming too expensive for Colleges to buy into and Kooth.com will allow our students to access counselling advice in a modern format. With the resources that are available on the site, learners who are facing emotional concerns can get instant advice on a variety of issues and those learners who are on a waiting list for face to face counselling with external agencies, can use Kooth first.”
The Student Support Centre is made up of a team of advisers available to give advice and support with finances, CV’s, interview preparation, links to employment services, housing advice, sexual health and applying to University.
Students can drop in to talk to the friendly experienced staff or receive impartial, confidential one to one appointments to help with any issues affecting their time at College and remove barriers.
